Hey, Fred, I'm jealous. You get to go to trial and I still havn't heard a word. Maybe 'cause I'm an upstanding businessman..........

 

In starting the process to obtain a copy of the last ride, I had a conversation with SOMEONE who said he didn't mind talking with me but would deny EVERYTHING if I tried to use any of the information. This unnamed person was in the unmarked police car at the last ride and verified the incident on medical parkway referred to in previous posts. His comment was "the police are all getting pretty fed up with the whole CM thing and this guy just kinda snapped. From in the car it never looked like the CMers were in danger of being hit, but I could certainly understand how they might have felt intimidated". I asked him to expand on the "...getting kinda tired..." thing and he said that NOBODY in the police dept. wants to keep going out during the rides. The sentiment is "who cares? just let 'em do whatever they want and if one of them gets killed, then that's one less bike rider". When I asked him "so why do they keep going out" he said that at some level someone (chief Polati?) is afraid that "normal" citizens will accuse the police of letting a ragged group of bike riding miscreants take over the streets. I asked if there had been complaints from so-called normal citizens. He said that there had been a feww 911 calls during the last ride.

 

He said that the other officers in the car were "tickled pink" that there were so many infractions during the last ride 'cause they were putting together an "infractions" tape for a presentation to chief Watson and chief Polati. I'd never heard that name before so I asked him who Polati was. " he's the guy, older guy close to retirement, who is in charge of that area". I wonder why nobody gave me his name when I was trying to find out just who was in charge?

 

So I asked him what he thought was going to happen and he said "hell, I don't know but I think you guys are doing it all wrong. I think you should get a coupla hundred people to ride down to MLK and Guadalupe and just lay down in the middle of the intersection. That'll get you all the media attention you can stand."

 

I gotta go. I'm planning to be there thursday eve.
